New to the District?
Welcome to Waukee Schools!

Welcome to Waukee Schools! The Waukee Community School District is an exciting place to be. Opportunities are numerous for the nearly 7,000 students that make up the Waukee School Community. The Waukee Way includes quality, caring teachers, dedicated staff and supportive families. It’s a great place to live and learn! Within the change that is all around us, there are two things our communities can count on: one, growth will continue into the foreseeable future and two, with that growth the commitment to each individual child remains strong. Each year, evidence of academic progress and quality instruction will be visible throughout our buildings and on our website.
We are proud of the comprehensive programming we are able to offer all students in the areas of academics, the arts and athletics. Patrons take a great deal of pride in our educational program and student achievement. Over 89% of our graduates go on to some form of postsecondary education. Our student body ranks high nationally on every measure of academic progress. Our faculty and staff strive constantly to provide a world-class education for our students. We are working hard to remove any ceilings on student progress and achievement, providing increasingly advanced coursework and instruction at lower and lower grade levels as our student body rises to the challenges and opportunities presented to them! Learning will ALWAYS be our number one focus at Waukee.
In addition to academics, Waukee Schools boasts successful extra and co-curricular programs. Our vocal and instrumental music and related arts programs are of the highest caliber. Athletically, Waukee students compete at the Class 4A level for statewide purposes and are a member of the Iowa Division of the Central Iowa Metropolitan Conference. Whatever your child’s interests may be, Waukee Schools provides opportunities for success and growth.
We continue to plan ahead. Student enrollment growth in the district has provided the opportunity for new and modern facilities. We recently started construction on the “final” additions to Waukee High School. These additions (to open in July 2012) will expand that facility by 95,000 square feet and position WHS to serve upwards of 1,800 students in the future, the culmination of a master planned facility that first opened in 1997. Additionally, we will begin construction in the spring of 2012 on elementary #7 to be located at the intersection of Stage Coach and 95th Street in West Des Moines, as well as an 8th/9th grade facility that will be built at the intersection of LA Grant and Ashworth in Waukee. The elementary will open in July of 2013 and the 8/9 grade building in 2014.
We encourage you to be involved in the life of our schools. There are many volunteer opportunities at the building and district level. The list is long, and the ways to be involved are numerous. Enjoy the experience – be in close contact with your school. Visit often, and of course call, email, or stop at one of our offices to get information about us. Be informed, be a part of the excitement, be our partner!
